You can set up and run an unlimited number of courses within your Mighty Networks community as long as you are subscribed to the Mighty Pro or Business plans.

The platform lets you set up content-only, cohort-based, and live event courses that can be accessed for free or paid for.

Key Takeaways:

  • You can create content-only, community, and live courses in Mighty Networks
  • Mighty Networks is the only platform to allow communities and courses in the same space
  • Create Mighty Networks courses using a template or from scratch

What Types of Courses Can You Create in Mighty Networks?

Mighty Networks is flexible since it provides the ability to combine courses with communities. You create the space for your course within your community, then customize it so that it fits your requirements.

There are three main types of courses that you can select and customize:

  • Content only
  • Cohort based
  • Live course

All course content is available to members via the desktop app along with the Android and iOS Mighty Networks apps.

Mighty Networks Content-Only Course

Mighty Networks Content-Only Course

A content-only course is as the name suggests. Rather than utilizing the platform’s community features, you instead create a content-only space to host your course material.

The content course template has limited features switched on and doesn’t include any interactive elements such as a chat or community feed. Instead, it includes a course materials area where you can build your lessons and add content such as text, videos, and documents.

Members with access to the space can learn the content at their own pace with minimal interaction with you and other members. You can choose to have all the course material available at once or drip-feed it on a gradual basis (handy for subscription-based courses).

If you want to broaden the features of your content-only course, you are able to switch on the various community features as you wish. For example, if you want to enable members to chat about the course content and share ideas, you can switch on the chat feed.

Mighty Networks Cohort Course

A cohort-based course typically consists of a structured syllabus or lessons coupled with projects, assessments, and other activities that are learned and completed as a group.

Setting up a cohort-based course on Mighty Networks is simple, thanks to its extensive community features and the cohort course template.

The cohort course template contains features suitable for group communication, such as the community news feed and discovery feed. Furthermore, to encourage more interaction, you can switch on additional features, such as the chat feed and live events hosting.

Finally, you can create a space specifically for running live courses. For this, you can use the platform’s video streaming capabilities. This type of course is beneficial if you want full audience participation and prefer a looser structure to your course material.

Essentially, you set up events that tell your audience when you will be going live, and it’s up to them to tune in at the right time. You can also add supporting documents and course materials that your members can download and read in their own time.

What Is Unique About Mighty Networks Courses?

What Is Unique About Mighty Networks Courses?

Mighty Networks is unique because it allows communities and courses to exist in the same place and gives you the ability to mix and match community and course creation features as you like.

While other platforms have both community and course creation capabilities, the two rarely mix, and you can typically only have one or the other.

Furthermore, you have full control over your space and its contents. For example, you may start out with a content-only course and choose to add a chat feature later down the line. You can do this at the touch of a button. The same goes for switching off features if necessary.

How to Create a Mighty Networks Course

Choose a Template or Start from Scratch

Choose a Template or Start from Scratch

All types of courses are created by adding new spaces to your community. For example, if you want to create a course called “Sales Strategies for Pro Sellers,” you must first create a space and add this title.

To create a space, you can use a template or start from a blank slate. Templates on Mighty Networks don’t work in the traditional sense. You don’t get a selection of layouts to choose from. Instead, you can select a template for your needs that comes with the relevant platform features switched on.

To elaborate on this, each space has the available features listed along the top of the page that members have access to. Features include About pages, member lists, chat and community feeds, live events, course material, and more.

So, if you want a content-only course, the template will have the course material feature switched on, while the live course template will include the live events feature.

It’s important to note here that spaces are entirely customizable. Therefore, you can quickly switch on any additional features that make sense for your course. You also have the ability to rename each feature to something more relevant to your course.

Add Course Materials

Add Course Materials

Once you have your space set up, you can start adding any course content. You can do this by first creating the structure of your course and adding sections and lessons.

Next, you upload any content that you wish to include. Mighty Networks lets you upload the following:

  • Files including Word docs, PDFs, slideshows, spreadsheets, etc. that are 25MB or smaller in size
  • Images in jpg, .jpeg, .png, .webp, .gif, .heic, and .heif formats
  • Pre-recorded videos up to 2GB in size (Mighty Pro or Business Plan only)
  • Audio files
  • Videos from third-party platforms YouTube, Vimeo, Facebook Video, and Searchie
  • Pre-recorded audio files up to 2GB in size
  • Audio files from third-party platforms Spotify, Soundcloud, Audioboom, Podbean, and Flat

Run Live Events

Run Live Events

To run live events, you must first ensure that you have the Events feature switched on within your course space. All you do is create a new event and set the date and time.

Mighty Networks supports native integrations with a large number of video streaming services including:

  • Zoom
  • GoToMeeting
  • GoToWebinar
  • Join.me
  • Google Meet
  • Crowdcast
  • WebinarNinja
  • YouTube Live
  • Vimeo Livestream

Once you have scheduled the stream on your preferred platform, all you do is add the URL for it to the event page.

Next, the event will be available in the course space for members to RSVP. When the event is due to go live, members click on the URL, and they will be taken to the live stream platform to view the event.

How to Charge for Mighty Networks Courses

How to Charge for Mighty Networks Courses

Once your course is set up and ready to go, you now have to determine what the payment terms are to access the content. Therefore, you must set up a payment plan for each of the spaces within your community.

Note that spaces can be free to access as well as paid.

Create a Plan

Create a Plan

To set up payment terms for your space, head to its settings, where you can create a new payment plan.

Here you can choose to include access to the space only, or you can bundle the access to also include access to your community network. Access to the space only would be for your existing community members, while the bundle would be for external customers that have not yet subscribed to your community.

If you want to sell the course to both community members and external customers, you must set up a separate payment plan for each.

You also have the option to bundle multiple spaces/courses and charge a single price for access to them.

Next, you must determine if you are to charge a one-time fee or a subscription.

  • One-time fees must cost a minimum of $0.50.
  • Subscription plans are available monthly or annually, or you can give the customer the option of either.
  • You can offer a free trial for paid courses.
  • Courses can also be free, and new subscribers will not be asked to add their payment details.

Mighty Networks integrates with Stripe to allow you to directly take payments. The platform also has a Web3 Token-Gating feature where customers can pay using cryptocurrency or NFTs.
